Manufactured from 2001-2005, all of the IS300 models after 2001 have all of the amenities and safety features that the modern consumer demands. A consumer isn't sacrificing anything by targeting an IS300. Moreover, despite its limited nature, the model has never held its value in the United States. A used IS300 is far cheaper than a compatible Audi A4, BMW 3 Series, or Infiniti G35. In addition, in many cases, it offers much better performance than those comparables.
While we wouldn't suggest passing on a great deal for a 2001 IS300, we would suggest focusing on 2002 models and beyond. The 2001 models lack stability control and side curtain airbags. Less importantly, they lack a center armrest and auto-dimming mirrors. The optional full leather seating and the navigation system were not available until 2002 as well. Interestingly, despite all the noise by the American automotive media, IS300s with manual transmissions never sold well, and an enthusiast will have a difficult time finding one today.
